Job DescriptionAct as a leader in the Operations function by designing and implementing quality systems, and advising business leaders on quality and manufacturing standards applicable to the business being served.Ensure we maintain compliance with current EHS standards and good laboratory practice.Manage the Media Formulation and Product Performance functions for the Lenexa site, including managing through other leaders within these functions.Drive initiatives encompassing the Business Leaders and operations teams.Develop, write and implement all quality control procedures, processes and standards, using lean management standards and controls.Improve safety, quality, reliability, capacity, yields and cost of existing processes. Monitor uptime trends and analyze data to drive targeted improvements.Identify and implement select improvement projects to production processes, methods and controls, including scope development, justification and execution as well as potential capital investment analysis.Provide technical support for project start-ups, test runs and special procedures.Work closely with the manufacturing, planning, and distribution departments to troubleshoot and solve problems.Liaison between the operations and technical communities to drive efficiencies and optimize chemical production methods.Assist engineering team in development of improved process instrumentation and control strategies, process safety, yields, capacity and uptime performance.Assist in long-term departmental planning.Organize the staff and workload to meet or exceed departmental performance standards and achieve business key performance indicators.Manage employee activities, including hiring, firing, disciplinary action, and performance appraisalsMinimum Requirements/Qualifications:Possess Undergraduate or Graduate degree in biological sciences, microbiology, chemistry or engineering. Graduate studies in Microbiology preferred.Possess 5+ years in clinical microbiology or equivalent experience in quality control or chemical process laboratory.DOE and process control project experience required. Expertise in process controls and process automation a plus.Root cause analysis/problem solvingSupervisory experience, preferably experience managing through other managers.Set up priorities and deliver results to meet business needs.Familiar with setting up standard procedures and processes, experience in lean management a plus.Detail oriented and efficient, with the ability to redirect focus quickly and effectively.Strong communication skills (verbal and written) required.Prudent and practical decision-making abilities, a team player, and can work independently without direct supervision.Familiarity with SAP a plusProficient in Microsoft Office programs.Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:Possess Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.Prior supervisory experience.Demonstrated success working in a complex, ideally global, matrix organization.Proficient in Microsoft Office programsAt Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 65,000 extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell.
